Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today launched the week-long observance of the Quami Ekta Week by leading the gathering in taking the pledge for National Integration at the main Secretariat Building here.

Addressing the gathering before administering the pledge, the chief minister fondly recalled the great visionary leader and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, whose birth anniversary is observed as National Integration Day or Quami Ekta Divas, in line with her ideals of unity, peace, love and understanding among all countrymen.

The strength of our country lies in the diversity of community, religion and language of our people, but lamented that there are some forces that threaten unity and integrity of the nation at times and called upon the people to stand up together against such forces, he said.

He also urged upon all government servants serving in various departments in different capacities to discharge their duties and responsibilities without discrimination and serve the people selflessly.

State Home Minister, Roshan Warjri also joined the officials and employees of various government departments in taking the pledge.

Earlier, Chief Secretary P B O Warjri in his brief introductory speech said that the entire week will be observed as communal harmony and national integration.

All the officers and staff were present to reaffirm and rededicate the integrity of the nation.
