Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan today called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed with him security scenario in the Northeastern state.

During the 20-minute meeting, the Governor apprised the Home Minister about the law and order situation in Meghalaya, which has been witnessing militancy from two groups -- HNLC and ANVC, official sources said.

During his recent tour to Meghalaya, the Home Minister had said that the Central government was ready for talks with insurgent groups in the Northeast if they shun violence.

"We are ready for talks with anyone who gives up violence. I appeal to everyone to shun violence," he had said.

There are two militant groups in Meghalaya -- HNLC and ANVC, both active in Khasi hills and Garo hills regions respectively.
