Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Deborah C Marak today sought more funds from the Centre to improve vocational training for students and monetary support to voluntary organisations working for the welfare of the tribals.
The minister who attended the meeting of Tribal Ministers of states appealed to the Centre to consider increasing fund allocation to Meghalaya for implementing schemes of vocational training for tribal students and to support voluntary organisations working in the field of Education, Health, Legal Redressal Services for their welfare.
In a statement here, she also stressed the need to sanction more funds for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships for tribal students in an attempt to improve school drop-out rates.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs organised the meeting of Tribal Affairs Ministers at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi today to discuss comprehensive and encompassing strategy for welfare of tribals in the country.
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram chaired the meeting and also launched the Van Vandhu Kalyan Yojana Scheme.
According to a government statement, the Minister had also requested the Ministry to increase the fund under the National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation to enable more handicapped citizens of the state to avail self-employment projects through the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank in the state.
