All opposition parties today threatened to launch a series of agitations in a common forum if Inner Line Permit (ILP) was not introduced in Meghalaya soon.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the parties, convened by the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM).

"We will constitute a joint forum of all opposition political parties by next two-three days to chalk out our action plan to ensure that the state government complies with the demand put forth by the NGOs on the implementation of ILP in the state," KHNAM President Pyndapbor Saibon told reporters.

The political parties attended included United Democratic Party (UDP), Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) and National People's Party (NPP).

The meeting resolved that ILP was a necessary mechanism to prevent the inflow of illegal migrants in the state.
