Meghalaya Police to send team to Karbi Anglong district

Meghalaya police will depute a team to Assams Karbi Anglong this week to ascertain if the arrested Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) cadres are wanted in any of the cases in the state.

"We are sending a police team this Friday to Karbi Anglong to find out if the arrested militants are wanted in any of the cases registered against them in the state," East Khasi Hills, Superintendent of Police, Davis Marak told PTI.

If after preliminary investigation, they are found to have been involved in any of the criminal cases, they will be brought here for trials, he said.
 

Yesterday, the Army said in a statement that five of the HNLC cadres were arrested in Assam's West Karbi Anglong district in a joint operation with the Assam police on September 18-19 last.

The security forces acted on a specific intelligence inputs about presence of HNLC cadres, and arrested them with arms and ammunition, it said.
