Meghalaya stands still to remember Mahatma

Meghalaya stood still for two minutes while floral tributes were paid to remember Mahatma Gandhi on his 66th death anniversary today.

Thousands of vehicles stopped in Shillong at 11 AM as the state government rang a siren to mark the beginning of the commemoration and rang it again after two minutes to announce the end.

This novel method to remember the 'Father of the Nation' was also observed in all the district headquarters.

Besides this, an official ceremony was organised here in which Acting Chief Secretary P B O Warjri, Additional Chief Secretary B K Deb Varma, Principal Secretary in-charge Home K S Kropha, D G Home Guards Kulbir Krishan and others paid floral tributes at Gandhi's bust at the Main Secretariat here.
 

A series of functions were organised throughout the state to mark the occasion.
