Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti today condemned the killing of a teacher by suspected militants in Pulwama district, saying "violence in any form is unacceptable, and there is no place for innocent killings in a civilized society."

Javaid Ahmad Khan, a resident of Khandaypora village of the south Kashmir district, was shot dead by unidentified militants outside his house late last night.

"We have already suffered immensely because of the more than two decades long turmoil which has consumed an entire generation of youth leaving behind distressed widows and destitute," Mehbooba, also a Member of Parliament, said in a statement here.

She said "no religion allows such dastardly acts of violence which lead to spilling of innocent blood and bring enormous tragedies to the families of the victims."

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families of the teacher, she prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
