Army and security forces have done a great job in creating a conducive atmosphere for revival of the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir and it is now for the state government to carry forward the mission, ruling PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said here today.

She said the people of the state are the biggest stakeholders of peace and the democratic process and the government is showing through tangible actions the transformation of ground situation.

Mehbooba was addressing a gathering at Tattoo ground in the heart of the city, which was handed over by army to the state government. It will be built as 'Citizens Park' jointly by the Army and the state government, with Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed laying the foundation stone today.

"Today's joint initiative of the state government and the Army (in setting up the Citizen Park) is a rejuvenation of the 'Healing Touch' policy which was pioneered by Chief Minister (Mufti Sayeed) during his first stint in 2002 and was greatly valued by the people of the State," she said.

Hailing the Army and other security forces, she said they are extending their full cooperation to the government in this new enterprise of hope which will go a long way in rebuilding the people's trust in democratic institutions and processes.

"Army and security forces have done a great job in creating a conducive atmosphere for revival of the democratic process in the state and it is for the state government now to carry forward the mission of rebuilding people's trust in the democratic institutions," Mehbooba said.

Army has parted with 17 acres of the camp land for setting up of the park for residents living in Batamaloo and surrounding areas.

She asked the Tourism Department to develop the park on modern lines as the facility will be a boon to people who live in its proximity, having literally no facility for recreational activities.
