Expressing her displeasure over the slow pace of dredging and desilting work of Jhelum river, J-K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today directed the department concerned to seek an explanation from the executing agency about the reasons of delay.

The Chief Minister visited several dredging and de-silting spots along the river, from Srinagar to Panzinara and Kreshibal.

She inquired from the engineers concerned about the status of desilting work and the reasons for slow progress, an official spokesman said.

Mehbooba directed the engineers concerned to look into the reasons of slow progress and fix the responsibility.

Owing to low discharge, winters are the best season for de-silting and dredging activities and best use of this time should have been made, he said.

En-route, Mehbooba interacted with people at several places and sought to know about their problems.

The spokesperson said people sought her intervention in getting their problems, like roads, unavailability ration and erratic power supply, solved.

She issued on the spot directions for the redressal of the problems, he said.

At Noor Bagh, people complained of seepage and inundation of their houses and lanes due to low level of Jhelum banks.

Mehbooba directed taking steps for raising the level of banks of river Jhelum, the spokesman said.
