Mehgalaya RTI activists demand new Lokayukta Act

Meghalaya enacted Lokayukta Act in 2002 and made rules for it in 2007.

"We have decided to pressurise the government to squash the old toothless act and pass a new bill, the draft of which was prepared by leading anti-graft activists and NGO leaders in line with those of Karnataka and others," Angela Rangad, convener of the Meghalaya Right to Information Movement told PTI.

"Citizens will have to be made aware of the need to have a strong Lokayukta in the state," she said, adding that there were a lot of loopholes in the existing Lokayukta Act.
