An altercation over a minor accident triggered a clash between two communities in Nagalpur area of the city today, leaving two people injured and as many vehicles charred, police said.

People from two communities fought pitched battles, hurling stones at each other and setting fire to vehicles near a college close to Valinath chowk.

"It was a personal issue between some youths which resulted in a clash between the people from two communities. At least two persons have received minor injuries during the clash. Two vehicles were also torched by the mob. The situation is now under control," said Mandlik.

He said cross complaints have been filed by the two sides. No arrests have been made so far.

As per local police, a youth from Rabari community had an altercation with some youths from the minority community sitting outside the college after his two-wheeler accidentally touched them.

Though youths from both sides were initially pacified by some people, they came face to face again at Valinath chowk in the afternoon and clashed.

The situation was brought under control after police intervened, an official said.
