Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar filed a writ petition in Patna High Court today seeking the closure of a road constructed on her land at Chandwa village in Bihar's Bhojpur district without consent.

Hearing the petition, a single bench of Justice Jaynandan Singh directed Principal Secretaries of Panchayati Raj and Rural Works Departments to submit their explanations in this regard by May 6.

The judge also asked the officials to tell the court about the policy of acquisition of such land.

The petition was filed by Kumar through her power of attorney holder Mukti Nath Tiwari.

Kumar, in her writ, alleged Ara Municipal Corporation took away the land and constructed road on it without informing her.

Her father late Babu Jagjivan Ram, former Deputy Prime Minister, had purchased the land in 1961.

Kumar is a Lok Sabha member from Sasaram in Bihar.
