A member of a Samajwadi Party's subsidiary unit has alleged that he was assaulted by two constables here for "protesting against them taking money" from tempo drivers.

"On Tuesday night, the constables, Jitendra Yadav and Sanjiv Yadav assaulted me for protesting against them taking money from tempo drivers near Krishna Nagar," the member of a SP's subsidiary unit alleged in his FIR.

However, Sanjiv lodged an FIR against the brother of the complainant and several others on the charge of loot, obstructing official work and threatening to kill him.

The two accused constables have been suspended, while Akhilesh Tripathi, in charge of Krishna Nagar police outpost has been shifted to the lines for allegedly defending them instead of solving the matter, SSP Rakesh Singh said.

"Superintendent of Police (crime) Ram Mohan Singh would probe the allegation made by rival parties," he added.
