A memorial on noted writer Mahesweta Devi is scheduled to come up in Kolkata, according to state secretariat sources.
Eminent Bengali author and social activist Mahasweta Devi, who was the champion of the marginalized and the voice of the oppressed, passed away in Kolkata last year in July following prolonged illness.
"The state government has decided to built a memorial at the residence of the noted writer in south Kolkata. The belongings of the writer, other materials used by the writer will be kept there," a highly placed source in state secretariat said.
The state government is also planning to build a memorial after renowned journalist Barun Sengupta, Gour Kishore Ghosh and Amitabha Chowdhury and is also planning to name roads after them.
