A mentally challenged youth was allegedly beaten to death by six men for vandalising a Ganesh pandal in Morbi town, police said today.

According to a complaint filed by Bharat Bhavsar (52), his nephew Hitesh Bhavsar (25) was thrashed by six men last night after he ransacked a Ganesh pandal set up by local youngsters of Gomta street in the town.

"Bhavsar claimed in his complaint that Hitesh was mentally unstable and had a violent nature. On Monday night at 11 pm, Hitesh went to Gomta street and suddenly started tearing apart banners and broke some portion of Ganesh pandal without any particular reason," Morbi Police Inspector R A Sodha said.

Bhavsar alleged that five to six youngsters, who set up the pandal, got angry with Hitesh after which they punched and kicked him until he died of internal injuries.

The accused were identified by Bhavsar as Narendra Parmar, Karan Chauhan, Ankur Mehta and three others.

"Due to internal injuries on his head, abdomen and lungs, Hitesh died on the spot. After learning about the incident, we arrested all six youngsters on charges of murder," the police official said.
