A 24-year-old mentally challenged youth was reunited with his family after over 3 years by the Vadodara district police (Rural).

Mahendra Bhoi had gone missing since June 2012, police said.

Vadodara Superintendent of Police Sharad Singal told PTI that Bhoi, hailing from Ranipura village of Savli tehsil in the district, was reunited with his parents.

"Bhoi was found in the area under the jurisdiction of Dalhousie police station in Himachal Pradesh a few days back," he said.

"After locals spotted him, they suspected that he might be a terrorist due to his long hair and beard. They handed him over to the Army. During interrogation, it was then revealed that he was mentally-challenged.

"He informed police that he had boarded a train to reach the Himalayan state but was unable to share details. He revealed that he belonged to Gujarat. Following this, the Himachal Police contacted their counterparts in Gujarat," he added.

"We then took his father to Himachal Pradesh where the reunion took place," Singal added.
