Police have apprehended a "mentally unstable" man for allegedly threatening people with two daggers outside the British High Commission here.

Police said that the apprehended person Sanjay (name changed) hails from Bhubaneshwar and was found with two daggers (khukri) tied around his waist.

"He was challenging the policemen with daggers who had reached the spot and threatening them with dire consequences if they came near him. However, police managed to overpower him and seized the daggers," said a senior police official.

In a statement, police said that Sanjay claimed he had applied for a UK Visa but the High Commission was allegedly neither responding nor returning his passport. On verification, however, his version turned out to be incorrect.

"His family members were contacted who confirmed about him being mentally unstable and having a history of violent behaviour.

"After medical examination, he was examined by a psychiatrist and was declared medically unstable. He was later produced at Patiala House Court and was sent to IHBAS (Institute Of Human Behavior And Allied Sciences) for treatment," the official said.
