Retail shops and other business establishments downed their shutters here today in response to the call given by association for Protection of Business Community for a dawn to dusk bandh to protest against the municipality's current drive to remove installations and sign boards of the traders.
Police were deployed in strength at various centres to ensure law and order.
The traders also took exception to booking of cases against the senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member P Kannan for alleged assault on municipal officials last week during the 'operation eviction' launched by the municipality in some busy centres.
