Mercury hovered below the 40-degree mark in the national capital today in a relief to the residents who have been reeling under a run of sweltering weather.
The Safdarjung observatory, the reading of which is considered as the official figure for the city, recorded the maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, said a MeT department official.
The minimum temperature settled at 28.7 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, he said.

The Palam observatory registered a maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius, the official said.
Humidity level in air oscillated between 71 and 39 per cent.
MeT office has predicted the possibility of dust storms and thunder storms towards night.
"Tomorrow the skies will be partly cloudy. Dust storms and thunder storms are likely to occur in some parts of the city towards evening and night.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 39 and 29 degrees Celsius respectively," the weatherman said.
Yesterday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.2 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature settled at 40.3 degrees Celsius.
