Mercury drops as rains lash Punjab, Haryana

Rains today lashed various parts of Punjab and Haryana, providing relief to people suffering from hot weather conditions.

Because of rains, maximum temperatures dropped sharply below normal levels with mercury at most places remaining below 40 degree mark.

UT Chandigarh, joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, was lashed by 17.3 mm of rains and its maximum was 35 deg C, four notches below normal, MeT department report said today.

Among other places in Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala settled at 35.5 deg C and 36.1 deg C and both cities received rainfall of 4.1 mm and 14.5 mm respectively.

Amritsar recorded its maximum at 34.7 deg C, six degrees below normal.
 

In neighbouring Haryana, Ambala received rainfall of 5.6 mm and its maximum was 35.9 deg C, four notches below normal.

Bhiwani, Hisar, Karnal and Narnaul recorded their maximums at 39.8 deg C, 39.5 deg C, 38.4 deg C and 38.6 deg C respectively.

MeT department predicted light to moderate rains at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana in next 24 hours.
