Maximum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana today hovered few notches above normal level with Hisar recording the highest day temperature of 40.8 degree Celsius.
Union Territory Chandigarh had a high of 39 degree Celsius, which is two degrees above normal, Met department said in its report.
Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar had a high of 39.8 degree C, up by two notches above normal while Mercury in Ludhiana and Patiala settled at 38 degree C and 39.4 degree C respectively.

In neighbouring Haryana, Ambala recorded maximum at 39.3 degree C, while Narnaul recorded Mercury at 33 degree C.
Karnal recorded a high of 39.2 degree C, up by three notches above normal.
