Mercury inches up in Punjab, Haryana

Maximum temperatures today rose by a few notches above normal in the states of Punjab and Haryana.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius, up by a notch above normal, local weather officials said.

In Punjab, the mercury in Ludhiana and Patiala touched 34.6 and 35 degrees, respectively, up two notches each, while Amritsar registered a high of 34.8 degrees.

Narnaul in Haryana saw the mercury soar by four notches to touch 38.5 degrees while Karnal was up three notches above normal at 34.8 degrees.

Hisar, Ambala, and Bhiwani recorded maximums of 38, 34.5 and 37.4 degrees, respectively.
 

The forecast is for light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across the two neighbouring states over the coming 24 hours.
