Mercury rises again in Punjab, Haryana

The maximum temperature hovered between one to four degrees Celsius above normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, the Met office said here.

Hisar recorded the highest day temperature in the region with a maximum of 42.7 degrees Celsius, up by three notches.

While Rohtak settled at a high of 42.3 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, the maximum temperature at Amritsar and Bhiwani was 41.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.

Among other places, Ludhiana, Karnal, Chandigarh and Ambala recorded maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius, 30 degrees Celsius, 38.9 degrees Celsius and 39.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The Met office has forecast light rains at isolated places in the region during the next 24 hours.
