Mercury today rose marginally in several parts of the country with both Churu and Kota in Rajasthan recording a high of 43 degrees Celsius.
Jaipur posted a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees while Sriganganagar recorded 42.5 degrees Celsius in the state. Other places in Rajasthan where mercury also shot up include Bikaner at 42, Barmer 40.8 and Jaisalmer 40.7 and Ajmer at 40 degrees Celsius, the state MeT office said.
In Odisha, Titlagarh was the hottest at 42 degrees Celsius, follwed by Bolangir, Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur andf Hirakud with 41.8, 41.5, 40.8, 40.4 and 40.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded a high of 39.1 and 37.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
Isolated rainfall was experienced in some parts of Rajasthan like Churu, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Alwar, Sawai Madhopur and Karuli.
In the national capital, mercury also rose a day after it received showers, though the temperature remained below 40 degree Celsius mark. But, high humidity made life difficult for Delhiites.
The maximum temperature rose to settle at 38.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was 24.7 degrees Celsisus, three notches below the normal, a MeT Department official said.
The humidity level oscillated between 44 per cent and 90 per cent.
Delhi's Safdarjung Observatory, reading of which is considered as the official figure for the city, received 4.7 mm rainfall till 8.30 AM, while areas under Lodhi Road, Palam, Ridge and Aayanagar recorded 3.3 mm, 14.8 mm, 5.2 mm and 6.3 mm rainfall, respectively during the same period, said a Met department official.
In Bihar, Gaya was the hottest at 40 degrees Celsius while Bhagalpur, Patna and Purnea recorded 37.3, 37 and 35 degrees respectively.
Temperatures across Punjab and Haryana also rose by a few notches but hovered close to or below normal limits.
Chandigarh recorded a high of 38 degrees Celsius, down one notch against normal, the MeT department said.
In Haryana, Ambala registered a high of 38.9 degrees Celsius, while Hisar's maximum settled at 37.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. Karnal recorded a high of 37.4 degrees Celsius, close to normal.
Chennai, Hyderabad and Thiruvanathapuram recorded a high of 39, 40, and 32 degrees Celsius.
