Mercury rises marginally as stormy conditions subside in Himachal

The mercury rose marginally here today as stormy conditions subsided with the local MeT office predicting rains and thundershowers in the mid hills and rains or snow in the higher reaches over the next six days.

The weather is expected to remain dry in the lower hills till May 5, except for May 2 and 3, the MeT said.

There was rain at isolated places in the past 24 hours.

Sarkaghat received 34 mm rain, the highest in the region while Kufri and Jhandutta received 11 mm and 10 mm rain respectively, followed by Jubbar Hatti with 9 mm, Naina Devi, Shimla, Dharamshala, Palampur, Bilaspur and Sundernagar with 6 mm, Dehra Gopipur with 5 mm, Bharari, Mandi, Baijnath, Mehre and Hamirpur with 4mm and Kumarsein and Dalhousie with 3 mm.

 

Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius while Manali and Kalpa shivered at 4.6 degrees Celsius and 5.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Shimla at 11.1 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar at 11.5 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar at 12.1 degrees Celsius, Solan at 13.0 degrees Celsius, Palampur at 15.5 degrees Celsius, Una at 17.4 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala at 17.8 degrees Celsius and Nahan at 19.9 degrees Celsius.

The day temperatures also rose marginally and Una in Shiwalik hills was the hottest with a high of 39.0 degrees Celsius while Sundernagar and Nahan recorded maximum temperatures of 32.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar at 31.6 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala at 29.4 degrees Celsius, Solan at 28.0 degrees Celsius, Palampur at 27.8 degrees Celsius, Shimla at 23.9 degrees Celsius, Kalpa at 19.6 degrees Celsius and Keylong at 17.7 degrees Celsius.
