Mercury soars above normal as monsoon rains elude capital

Today's maximum was seven degrees above normal and up from yesterday's 40.3 degrees Celsius while the minimum rose from 29.2 degrees Celsius to 32.2 degrees C, six nothces above normal.

The city did not receive rains for the third consecutive day and humidity oscillated between 33 and 64 per cent.

Maximum temperature in July had risen to 41 degrees Celsius on several ocassions in 2009 and 2004. The highest of 45 degrees Celsius was recorded on July 1, 1931.

The Weatherman predicted a little relief from heat tomorrow with the maximum likely to be at 37 degrees Celsius. However, early morning tomorrow could be a little hot for Delhiites as the mercury could rise up to 32 degrees.

 

Monsoon hit the capital on July 6, after missing the normal onset date of June 29. Last year, monsoon reached the city on June 26.
