Mercury soars above normal level in Punjab, Haryana

Monsoon rain evaded most parts of Punjab and Haryana leading to a slight rise in the maximum temperature which stayed above the normal level.

Union Territory Chandigarh witnessed a high of 34.4 degree Celsius, up by a degree above normal level, according to the Meteorological department.

In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala witnessed maximum at 34.2 deg C, 33 deg C and 32 deg C respectively.

While in Haryana, Ambala, Bhiwani and Hisar recorded maximum at 34.1 deg C, 35.6 deg C and 36.6 deg C respectively.

Karnal had a high of 36.6 deg C, up by two notches above normal.
