Mercury soars in Hry and Pb, Hisar hottest at 39.5 deg C

The maximum temperature today further soared across Haryana and Punjab as no rainfall took place in the two states.

Hisar In Haryana was hottest place in the state at 39.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal limits.

Ambala, too, had a hot day recording a maximum of 37.7 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal limits.

There was no relief from sultry weather conditions for residents of Karnal where the maximum settled at 37 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal limits.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal limits, as per the MeT department's report.
 

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 36 degrees Celsius, up one notch against normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their above normal maximums at 35.5 degrees Celsius and 38.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

The MeT Department here said that southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Haryana and Punjab today.

Delayed by over a week, the southwest monsoon on July 12 had advanced into most parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh, bringing moderate to heavy rains in the region.

However, for the past six days, there has not been any significant rainfall activity at most places in the two states and Chandigarh.

The MeT department today predicted rain or thunder showers at many places in Punjab and Haryana over the next two days.
