The Meteorological department today predicted heavy rains coupled with high speed thunder squalls in parts of Uttarakhand, prompting the state government to put the district administrations concerned on an alert.
Isolated heavy rains are likely to occur especially in Pithoragarh, Nainital, Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand during the next 48 hours starting this evening, a MeT department forecast said.
Hail is also likely to hit places located at a height of 2000 metres and above, it said.
With the weatherman predicting heavy showers coupled with high speed winds and thunder especially for the hilly districts, Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy asked Secretary, Disaster Management, Amit Singh Negi to issue an advisory for the district magistrates concerned asking them to be watchful and prepared to deal with any situation.
