Metal shares fell by as much as 5 per cent following a lacklustre Chinese factory output data that indicated slowdown in the world's second biggest economy.
Shares of Jindal Steel & Power tumbled 4.72 per cent, while Hindalco Industries lost 3.08 per cent, Tata Steel (2.06 per cent), Sesa Sterlite (1.86 per cent) and NMDC (1.22 per cent) on the BSE.
Led by the losses in these stocks, the BSE's metal index ended with a loss of 1.69 per cent at 12,312.20.
