DDA today informed Delhi High Court that it has started fixing water meters at all borewells and the command tanks in Dwarka area here to measure the amount of water being supplied to the residents of the South West Delhi sub-city.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) also submitted before a bench of justices B D Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva the work of fixing meters, as ordered by the court, is likely to be completed in three months at a cost of over Rs 77.50 lakh.

"The work of fixing water meters have been awarded vide letter dated January 9, 2015. Work has been started by the concerned agency, order has been placed for purchase of water meters and work is likely to be completed within three months i.E by April 18, 2015," DDA said in its affidavit filed through advocate Sanjeev Sabharwal.

The court was also informed about the estimated cost of the project at over Rs 72 lakh while the accepted tender amount was Rs 77.50 lakh.

On October 30 last year, the court had ordered DDA to install flow meters at each of the bore wells and at the point of inflow into the command tanks.

DDA had informed the court that 11.25 kilolitres of water every day is sent from 10 of the 14 bore wells in Dwarka to the command tank 4. However, it did not have details of the amount of water being supplied from command tank 4 to Dwarka.

The court on September 18 last year had directed DDA to measure through flow meters the water it is supplying to Dwarka residents, saying there is no clarity on how much water they are getting.

The direction was issued after residents of Dwarka complained of inadequate water supply despite commissioning of 10 additional bore wells by DDA in that area recently.

The bench was hearing two separate pleas of Delhi EPDP CGHS and Dwarka Forum which have sought directions to the authorities, including the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), to provide more water to the area.
