Metro Cash & Carry to open 4th wholesale store in Bengaluru

New store to start operations by early July, will be the German firm's 18th store in the country

Germany's Metro Cash & Carry today announced to open its fourth wholesale outlet in Bengaluru, taking its total count to 18 in India.

The new store, which would come at Binnypet area of the city would start its operation by early July, Metro said in a statement.

The company had announced last month its third store in Hyderabad which would now open at the same time as Binnypet outlet.

Metro Cash & Carry India Managing Director Rajeev Bakshi said: "We look forward to engaging further with local small and medium-sized businesses who can help us localise our assortments."

Last year, Metro has unveiled its plans to expand its network to 50 stores by 2020 in India. Metro had entered India in 2003, but its third outlet was opened in December 2013.
 

It currently operates 16 wholesale distribution centres at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Zirakpur, Amritsar, Vijayawada and Indore.

Globally Metro Cash & Carry operates in 26 countries with over 750 self-service wholesale stores. In FY 2013-14, the company which employs 117,000 people worldwide had a sales of 31 billion euros.
