Mexican Navy Ship ARM Cuauhtemoc began its five-day Mumbai visit from today, with its chief thanking the Indian Navy for launching search and rescue operations recently to find a Mexican naval cadet who fell overboard around 550 nautical miles off the Goa coast.
The visit will conclude on June 26, a Defence spokesperson said.
The ship is commanded by Captain Rafael Antonio Lagunes Arteaga and has a complement of 184 personnel, including 40 officers, 13 Petty Officers and 131 sailors.
"The ship was received with traditional fanfare and in accordance with Naval customs.
"The Commanding Officer thanked the Indian Navy for the extended search by Naval Aircraft P8I and warships INS Teg and INS Mysore, for the missing cadet who had fallen over board," the spokesperson said.
Captain Arteaga is scheduled to call on Rear Admiral R B Pandit, NM, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet. The crew of the ARM Cuauhtemoc will also visit Indian Naval Ship INS Mumbai. Professional sports and social events are being organised for the crew of the ARM Cuauhtemoc during her stay at Mumbai.
The ship last visited Mumbai in July 2002, the spokesperson said.
