MHA reviews Bezbaruah Committee report

The Home Ministry today reviewed the progress on implementation of the M P Bezbaruah Committee report on problems being faced by people of northeast origin in Delhi and other parts of the country.

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju chaired the meeting where representatives of various ministries and northeastern states gave presentations on different issues.

The committee's recommendations included legislative measures, special police initiatives for safety and security of northeastern people living in Delhi, NCR and other parts of the country, educating people about the northeast and addressing their grievances of accommodation.

Rijiju expressed satisfaction on the steps being taken by different ministries for implementing the report.
 

Over 435 boys and girls of northeast origin have been recruited by Delhi Police and are being given training. The meeting stressed on the need for special classes in Hindi for the people recruited from northeast in Delhi Police.

The issues of tourism promotion, cultural and tourism festivals of northeast, films on northeast, promotion of sports and infrastructural facilities, enhancing of northeast programmes on Doordarshan, hostel accommodation in NCR for northeast students were also discussed in the review meeting.

The representatives of northeastern states in Delhi informed about the logistics, educational and other related issues of their people.

Rijiju asked the participants to take necessary action on the remaining recommendations for their implementation in a time-bound manner, an official spokespersonm said.
