A "middleman" collected Rs 300 crore as "party fund" from developers, for use in the recent Gujarat elections, a BJP legislator alleged here today.

Ashish Shelar, BJP MLC, while participating in a discussion on the Governor's address to the joint sitting of the Legislature, alleged that the middleman, Rohan Jagdale, was a relative of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.

"The funds were collected from developers in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur for transfer of plot reservations from industrial to residential and also for granting additional FSI to developers," Shelar said.

"Chavan is known for his clean image, but since over the last one year, the functioning of the Urban Development Department, which he holds, has come under cloud," he added.

Shelar also alleged that Jagdale is demanding money for sanction to 11 parking schemes of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
