Migrant workers seek Collector's intervention

Complaining that their employer was delaying payment of salary, a group of 35 migrant workers from Bihar employed with a private textile mill here have petitioned the District Collector seeking his intervention to end their ordeal.

In a memorandum submitted to the Collector today on the behalf of 35 workers, by CITU and CPI-M local leaders, the workers claimed that they had been working with the mill for the past four years and staying in an accommodation provided by the management.

However, the management started delaying payment of salary to the workers, which has accumulated to about Rs.Eight lakh, they claimed adding because of this their livelihood and their families' in Bihar had been affected.
 

Moreover, the management was not properly maintaining the accommodation provided to them and there was lack of basic amenities including safe drinking water, they alleged.

The workers wanted the intervention of the District administration to set right the problem.
