Showkat Ali, along with three family members, surrendered before the police soon after his arrival here last evening, Senior Superintendent of Police (Rajouri) Mubbasher Latifi said.

Ali, a resident of the Thanna Mandi region in the district, had joined a militant outfit soon after crossing the Line of Control (LoC) to PoK, he said.

He stayed there for nine years, during which he also married a local woman.

Ali, along with his wife and two children, entered India through Nepal before surrendering to the authorities here.

"Investigations are on and we will probe into Ali's activities during his stint as a militant," Latifi said.

The motive behind Ali's return is yet to be known, he added.

Ali's family members in India visited him in jail after he surrendered here.
