Militant shot dead

A militant was killed in an

encounter with the Army and an AK-56 rifle was recovered from him in central Assam's Karbi Anglong district, a police officer said today.

During an area domination patrol launched by a column of the Army in Kuligaon area, it observed some suspicious movement in the foliage yesterday, district Superintendent of Police Mukdhajyoti Mahanta said.

On being challenged, the extremist fired upon the Army column attempting to escape and the Defence personnel also fired back in retaliation, Mahanta said.

After searching the area, the cadre was found dead in a nearby drain and an AK-56 rifle was recovered from the slain insurgent.
 

Stating that he was yet to be unidentified, the SP said the body was handed over to Dilai police station in Bokajan subdivision of the district last night.
