Puducherry Government today announced a Rs four per litre hike for milk procured from dairy farmers from existing Rs 20.
The procurement price had been raised from Rs 20 to Rs 24 a litre and it would come into force from July 16, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said in a release here.
He had issued necessary instructions to Puducherry Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (popularly known as PONLAIT), which procures the milk, to raise the price as there was need to take care of the wellbeing of milk producers.
Around 7,220 dairy farmers attached to the cooperative milk producers societies would be benefitted by this step and this was also aimed at raising production of milk in the Uniion territory, the release said.
