Press Trust of India Kanpur (UP)
A 37-year-old milkman died after being shot in back by some unidentified persons who later smashed his face with stones and bricks in Chaubepur area here, police said today.

Rakesh was first shot in back and then was hit in face with stones and bricks yesterday probably to ensure he could not be identified, SP (rural) Surendra Tiwari said.

Police said that Rakesh had gone to deliver milk at a collection centre last evening, some 2km from his village but didn't return home. His body was recovered today morning, he said.

The SP said that since Rakesh was not carrying any cash at the time of the incident, the police are suspecting it to be a "revenge killing" and are conducting investigation in that direction.

Rakesh's bicycle and empty milk canister were also found near the body, the SP said, adding that the body has been sent for post-mortem.
