Over 1000 school and college students and common public took part in a mini marathon run, popularly known as Envithon, here today to create awareness against the use of plastic for protecting the eco-system.
The event was organised ahead of World Environment Day, 2018 by Union Environment, Forest & Climate Change Ministry organised mini marathon run, to take steps against use of plastic.
The mini marathon was held from IDCO Exhibition ground, Unit-3 through Sachivalaya Marg, Patel Marg, Biduyt Marg cumulating at Kalinga Stadium and covered around 5 km on the heart of the capital city.

Beat Plastic Pollution. The participants pledged to beat the menace of plastic pollution, a release from the organisers said.
The World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year. It may be noted here that, India is the global host of 2018 World Environment Day to combat single use of plastic pollution. The theme set for 2018 World Environment Day is Beat Plastic Pollution, it said.
India is organising the event through a series of activities to urge the community and individuals to join hands to explore sustainable alternatives and reduce excess use of single-use plastic polluting our oceans, damaging marine life and threatening human health, it added.
