Close on the heels of an attack on a SDM by mining mafia in Solan, a senior police officer in the district was allegedly obstructed from performing his duty while conducting a raid to check the illegal activity.

Two tractor-trailers loaded with sand blocked the way of Superintendent of Police S Arul last night while he was in his official car to check illegal sand and gravel mining from riverbeds in Baddi area of Solan.

"While I was on way to check mining, two tractors, coming from the other side, did not give way to my vehicle," the SP said.

Arul, acting on a tip-off, had reached the spot to check mining in Manpura 'khad' in Baddi area, police sources said.

Earlier this month, alleged mining mafia had attacked IAS officer Yunus Khan, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nalagarh in Solan.
