Welfare and Port Minister M Kandasamy today asked the Port Department here to ensure that the dredging of the estuary off the coast in Thengaithittu was completed soon so that the development of the Puducherry port into a satellite port could take place expeditiously.
After visiting the port, Kandasamy told reporters that Puducherry government and the Chennai Port Trust (CPT) had inked a MoU in Delhi on March 15 to develop the port here into a satellite port of the CPT to gear up export and import of cargo.
An official of the port department told PTI that dredging by the Dredging Corporation of India was being done at a cost of Rs 14.5crores.
