The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) should be aspiring for a 'Maharatna' status and should start working toward the goal, Union Minister of State for Power R K Singh said today.
"I want the DVC to think national and not restrict itself to only to two states. The NTPC was born after the DVC and they are producing 55000 MW and you are generating only 7000 MW. You have potential to become a Maharatna," Singh said addressing its employees at the 71th foundation day celebration.
He said the DVC should explore new markets as demand is growing at six per cent as new consumers are been added.
"I want a young and vibrant DVC. I have removed the ban on recruitment so that talents can be inducted," the minister said.
Singh also asked the DVC to explore renewables in a big way to keep pace with the change.
The DVC has been planning to install a 50 MW solar project.
