West Bengal Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee today claimed that the World Bank has appreciated the performance of his department and offered him to become its 'ambassador' in Morocco and Egypt to replicate the performance there.

According to the minister who recently returned from the US after attending a World Bank Conference in New York, the institution said "credit goes to the West Bengal Government for the commendable performance in panchayat sector and if this can be recreated in the countries like Morocco and Egypt, many political disturbances will disappear from there."

Mukherjee said he had, however, told the World Bank authority that a specific proposal should be officially made to the West Bengal government in this regard. He said if the proposal was accepted, he had no problem.
