Officials having an aptitude for teaching can volunteer for a stint at Mussoorie-based country's premier training institute for bureaucrats, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said here today.

In a meeting with Principal Secretaries of states' General Administration Departments, Singh reviewed the progress done by them in formation of civil services board that decides on transfer and posting of IAS and IPS officers.

During the meeting Singh called upon those officials who had an aptitude for teaching and academics to voluntarily offer themselves for a stint as faculty at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.

He said this would not only benefit IAS trainees but would also give officials a satisfaction of having served their alma mater which trained them for the coveted career.

The Minister of State for Personnel said the cadre review of IAS officials was complete with respect to most of the states barring Jammu and Kashmir, which he said, has assured that it will submit all the requisite documents within next two weeks.

The responsibility of general administration department and Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) is to ensure optimum utilisation of the potential and talent of each official at the right time and right place, and at the same time, provide a work-friendly environment in which an official can give his best without any intimidation or subjugation, he said.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to give maximum governance with minimum government, Singh recalled some of the revolutionary decisions taken by the DoPT during the past one year including introduction of self-attested certificate and biometric Aadhaar card to eliminate the need of producing life certificate by senior citizens.

The meeting also discussed the proposal of reducing the duration of training of state level civil service officials who get inducted into IAS, from 8 weeks to 6 weeks.

The progress made in setting up of special CBI courts in Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh was also discussed during the meeting, it said.
