: R Kamalakannan, Puducherry Minister for Electricity and Education today paid a surprise visit to several schools and electricity board offices in Karaikal district and checked the attendance and cleanliness.
Accompanied by Director of Education Kumar, he first visited the Government Higher Secondary School at Poovam and later drove to the District EB office at Karaikal.
Later he visited a few other Government schools. In all the schools, Kamalakannan interacted with the students.
In all the places, he checked attendance registers and enquired details about the number of officers, teachers and other assistants not present at the respective venues.
He also asked details about punctuality in schools and EB offices.
Stating that he would continue to make such surprise visits, he urged the defaulters to reorient themselves.
He also stressed the importance of keeping schools and the premises of Government offices neat and clean.
The Minister pointed out that both the Chief Minister and Lt Governor at Puducherry were keen on punctuality and effective functioning of Government offices and urged the officials of Education and Electricity departments to ensure punctuality and cleanliness.
Karaikal is an enclave of the union territory in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.
