A bodyguard, who was attached to Jharkhand Agriculture Minister Yogendra Sao, died at the Circuit House here, a senior police officer said today.

The bodyguard Niranjan Mahato, aged 36, was found dead in the room this morning by his colleagues when they tried to wake him up to escort the minister to Ranchi, Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Manoj Kaushik said.

Mahato was dropped at the Circuit House around 10.30 last night after returning from Gumla with the minister and was "normal and well" when he went to sleep, Kaushik said.

The bodyguard, who belonged to Sehna Police Station in Lohardaga district, was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, the SP said.

The minister, DIG (North Chotonagpur Division) P R Das, Superintendent of Police Manoj Kaushik inspected the body but did not find any "injury or suspected snake bite," Kaushik said.

The senior police officials ruled out any foul play but asked for post mortem to know the cause of his death and a special medical board, formed by the Hazaribagh civil surgeon, conducted it.

The minister assured the bereaved family that necessary help would be provided to it and the widow would get a job on compassionate ground as Mahato died on duty.
