Minister's wife's guest house employee held for trafficking

An employee of a guest house owned by the wife of Meghalaya Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh was arrested along with another woman on charge of trafficking and forcing a minor into prostitution, police said.

The minor was rescued after she managed to escape from the guest house, they said.

"We have arrested an employee of the guest house owned by the wife of home minister on trafficking charges," SP (City) Vivek Syiem told PTI.

The employee identified as 37-year-old Usha Debarma and her 27-year-old accomplice Momoni Pardon were arrested and charged with kidnapping and trafficking.

The victim first came to Shillong after she was employed as a maid. The woman befriended the minor and then her into prostitution, Syiem said.
 

Till September this year, over 80 cases had been registered under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and 34 cases of Kidnapping & Abduction of children under sections Section 363, 364, 364A and 366 of the IPC.
