"I have requested the CEO to extend security cover due to the GNLA anti-social activities against me and my supporters," Sangma told reporters after meeting the Chief Election Officer (CEO) P Naik here.
Last week, one of his supporter succumbed to bullet injuries which he received while campaigning in the remote Gambegre constituency of West Garo Hills district.
The Minister had a narrow escape last October when the GNLA militants waylaid powerful IEDs on the road which he was supposed to travel in Kherapara area of the constituency.
The militants also lobbed a hand grenade in his Ringgregittim residence in West Garo Hills district headquarter, Tura the following month.
